Atlanta’s Magic City surrounded by police

Atlanta’s Magic City surrounded by police : Caitlin, we will see you then. Alex, thanks so much. We have some breaking news to share with you from downtown Atlanta, where police are conducting an investigation at a well-known strip club. Crime scene tape now stretched outside of Magic City on Forsyth Street. And that’s where we find Good Day’s Lindsay Tuchman live this morning asking questions. Hey, Lindsey.

Very limited information right now. We just got out to the scene here within the last 2 or 3 minutes. So we’re gathering these new details as well.

But I want to step out of the way. You can see this active investigation here happening behind me. This is in the parking lot behind Magic City, a very well known strip club in this area. But you can see Atlanta Police investigators are here on the scene.

We just saw one crime scene or two crime scene units now pull up here to this area. They have the entire perimeter blocked off with crime scene tape. And we see a few patrol cars in the area as well. We do not know what the nature of the investigation is at this time. We’re still waiting to learn that information from Atlanta Police.

So again, very limited details other than the fact that there is this active investigation happening here. As soon as we learn what exactly happened and if there were any injuries or who exactly is involved with this, of course we’ll keep you updated. But for now, that is the very latest live from downtown Lindsay. Tune in for Good Day Atlanta.

A very active scene, that’s for sure. Thanks so much, Lindsay. Now to panic and terror at two separate scenes as Newton County deputies say a gunman shot and killed two people and left a third critically hurt. The violence started at the Walmart on Salem Road and ended at a house about two miles away.

Now, one of the victim’s mothers is walking us through her daughter’s terrifying final moments. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Dewayne Ida opened fire around 1:30 Friday morning, shooting and killing Khalif Barksdale and injuring Ryan Bradley.

Now, investigators say he then traveled, went to a home on Emerson Trail where he shot and killed 19-year-old Akilah Clark. Clark’s family says she ran into her mother’s room, warned her that he was coming, and asked her to call for help. Shortly after, he was inside the house.

She did this and she said, “Mommy.” And she said, “Stop.” And I proceed to run. And as I, you know, he just started firing about 7 to 8 shots. She fell on the ground.

That suspect was apprehended in South Carolina where he then shot himself. According to police, he did survive. As soon as he’s released from the hospital, police say he will be taken to the Newton County Jail. And we are working to learn more about a different workplace shooting that happened in Gwinnett County.

Police say that victim had been shot in the shoulder by a colleague during a dispute inside a car. This was in unincorporated Duluth last month. That victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. The suspect, 24-year-old Emily Rouz of Norcross, tried to get away, say police led them on a brief chase before being stopped.

Our aviation unit happened to be right in the area and proximity was able to find the vehicle and keep eyes on the vehicle and alerting officers at his direction and where the vehicle was headed.
