Former NBA Stars Son Hospitalized After Cybertruck Crashes Into Tree. A USC-committed basketball player and son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas has been transported to the hospital after a Cybertruck crash. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
we just spoke with Jose Pereira who said it sounded like fire and a small explosion in the early morning hours as he and his family were jolted from their sleep. That powerful sound was actually from the Cybertruck that slammed head-on into a tree next to Sarah’s home.
the driver was 18-year-old Elijah Arenas, a high school basketball star and the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas. “I just heard fire, fires started in the car,” Pereira said. “They were trying to take him out and talking to him, telling him ‘Stay with us.’ He couldn’t talk because he was badly injured by the crash.”
The crash occurred just before 5:00 AM along Corbin Avenue and Blight Street. The cause is still unknown, but firefighters immediately responded to the scene. “There was a person trapped in here,” Pereira said. “Fortunately, good Samaritans removed the victim from the burning vehicle before firefighters arrived.”
“The whole house shook when it happened. There was glass everywhere. It took them about 30 minutes because you could hear the paramedics asking him if he was conscious,” Pereira added.
The LAPD has not confirmed if the victim is Arenas’ son. The teen is a five-star recruit who committed to USC earlier this year.
TMZ reported that Arenas’ mother posted on Instagram apparently in reference to the crash that she needed everyone’s prayers and that Arenas was placed in an induced coma due to smoke inhalation, but didn’t suffer any major bodily injuries.
