Irans Uranium Enrichment Claims Clash With US Maximum Pressure Strategy

Irans Uranium Enrichment: Iran has asserted its right to enrich uranium to 60 percent purity, directly challenging the renewed ‘maximum pressure’ sanctions campaign. The statement came during stalled nuclear talks in Vienna, where Iranian negotiators have rejected Western demands to limit enrichment to 3.67 percent — the limit set under the 2015 nuclear deal.

The standoff is intensifying as satellite images show widespread activity at the underground Fordow facility and US officials confirm that Iran can now produce weapons-grade uranium (90 percent) within weeks if it so chooses. “They are playing nuclear chicken,” warned David Albright, a former inspector for the International Atomic Energy Agency, noting that Iran’s stockpile of 60 percent enriched uranium has increased 12-fold since 2021.
