Trump Withdraws Previous Nominee, Appoints Fox News Host as Interim US Attorney for DC

Trump Withdraws Previous Nominee: Former President Donald Trump has withdrawn his initial nominee for US Attorney in Washington DC and appointed former Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro as interim replacement, marking another abrupt change in his judicial appointments.

The decision comes just one day after Trump replaced his original nominee for US Surgeon General. Ed Martin, the first nominee for the DC US Attorney position, was pulled after failing to gain sufficient Senate support, particularly from Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), who stated he had “no tolerance for anybody who entered the building on January 6th.”

Martin, described as a “fire-breathing conservative podcaster,” faced additional scrutiny for failing to disclose past appearances on Russian state media during his confirmation process.

In his announcement, Trump praised Pirro as “a powerful crusader for victims of crime” and highlighted her establishment of the nation’s first domestic violence bureau during her tenure as Westchester County District Attorney – a position where she became the first woman ever elected.

Pirro, who hosted “Justice with Judge Jeanine” for a decade before co-hosting Fox News’ “The Five,” will now leave the network to assume the interim position. The appointment was acknowledged on-air by Fox’s Bret Baier, who wished her well in her new role.

Political analysts note this move continues Trump’s pattern of appointing media personalities and loyalists to key positions. Pirro’s legal experience includes serving as a county judge and district attorney in New York, where Trump noted she was “considered one of the top district attorneys in the history of the state.”

The White House suggested Martin might be considered for another position within the administration, with Trump telling reporters, “Hopefully we can bring him into whether it’s DOJ or whatever in some capacity.”

This development comes as the Trump administration continues to reshape the federal judiciary in its final months, with particular attention to US Attorney offices nationwide.
