Saudi Demand from Iran: Negotiate with Trump to Avoid Regional Conflict

Saudi demand from Iran formed the core of discussions during Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman’s recent visit to Tehran. The Kingdom explicitly urged Iran to re-engage in nuclear negotiations with the Trump administration in the United States.

This request, driven by deep concerns over escalating tensions, aims to prevent a potential military confrontation involving Israel.

Despite the Saudi appeal, Iran maintains significant distrust towards the Trump administration and its approach to the nuclear issue. Iranian officials reiterated their stance that previous US actions, particularly the withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) under Trump, have eroded any basis for confidence.

Consequently, Iran emphasized its determination to continue its uranium enrichment activities as permitted under its current nuclear program framework.

The Saudi push for renewed US-Iran talks underscores Riyadh’s acute anxiety about regional instability spiraling out of control. The Kingdom fears that heightened hostilities, especially between Iran and Israel, could trigger a wider conflict directly threatening Gulf security.

Saudi Arabia views diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Washington as the most viable path to de-escalation and preventing further destabilization in the Middle East.
