Gulf Cooperation Council Region Remains Priority for NATO, Kuwaiti Official Says

Gulf Cooperation Council Region: A senior Kuwaiti official confirmed that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region continues to be a strategic priority for NATO, emphasizing the alliance’s commitment to regional security and stability. The remarks came during high-level discussions between Kuwaiti and NATO representatives, focusing on enhanced military cooperation and counterterrorism efforts in the Persian Gulf.

The official noted that NATO’s engagement with GCC states has intensified in recent years, particularly in areas of maritime security, intelligence sharing, and joint military exercises.

“The Gulf remains vital to global energy security and international trade routes,” the official stated, highlighting NATO’s interest in maintaining stability amid ongoing regional tensions with Iran and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

The announcement follows NATO’s recent expansion of its Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, which strengthens partnerships with Gulf nations.

Analysts view this as part of the West’s broader strategy to counterbalance growing Chinese and Russian influence in the region while addressing shared security challenges, including drone threats and missile proliferation. Kuwait currently hosts NATO’s regional liaison office, serving as a hub for coordination with GCC members.
